    • This is sad how accurate it is. I’ve never downloaded tik tok, that wanna-be vine. It’s stupid and literal spyware and breeds Idiocracy, which is exactly where we’re all heading as a society if things keep going as they are.

I don’t mean to dump this here but I feel you’re a person who understands and well, frankly you can at least voice it better than I can if you agree and understand what I’m getting at. I think people are forgetting what matters in favor of convenience and lack of pride in what we’re capable of as humans. Not many have that “fight” in em anymore and it’s just like a slow depressed drawn out suicide watching events unfold.

I will remain hopeful and not let my resolve dissolve in the face of despair. You make excellent content, Toons. Don’t let your flame die out like most.

  8. This is literally me. I got tiktok just cuz and my attention actually grew shorter. I started watching more YouTube shorts and didn’t watch to the end of 10 min videos. I have now deleted it and I have recovered but I don’t think I’ll ever be the same. I still feel the pull to watch something else when I reach more than 10 min.

  11. Yall are being so goddamn dramatic in the comments. People making stupid things isnt gonna just disappear if tik tok goes away. They’ll move onto something else. Also theres good content on tik tok, it just wont appear if all you look at is people bringing up the bad shit. Yall are seeking out cringe on tik tok and then blaming the app. And yall saying its a “badge of honor” not to use tik tok is just proving that yall are not judging the app based on your experience (which would be tailored to your interests because of its algorithm!) but rather someone else seeking out the bad ones and posting them on other platforms.

TL,DR: cringe will always exist online, theres good stuff on the app if you dont just look at people calling out the bad in other places.

  12. I like how we’re at a point in social media and technology that parodying them isn’t the “Old man complains about kids these days” trope we used to roll our eyes at. The internet has legitimately become this absurd, and the consequences of it is starting to feel tangible.

Bonus points that the threat of some sites risking/threatening shutting down feels more like a sweet release than a crying shame.

  13. Don’t really like to judge cultural jumps, i.e. I really don’t understanding watching someone play a game instead of playing it myself, but hey, people watch versus play football all the time and I hate football too.

But this is kind of just too far… scientists have said this trend is normal for humans, but not if it’s a good thing we should be happy to see. It’s just ridiculous how junky Tiktok now… like having to play mobile game footage just to keep someone’s attention? Like what?

    Whatever, though.

  14. A few years ago, I got myself to a point where I could sit still for way longer YouTube videos. I’m talking about video essays over 30-40 minutes, sometimes pushing an hour. This felt like an achievement after my old attention span brain rot had me feeling like >5 minutes was pushing it. I truly hate that TikTok, YouTube and everyone else that hosts content™️ keep pushing things hard the other way

    • it somehow gives more interaction to those videos. algorithm chooses what you liked before and uses similar content out of these. when they add a video you seen/interacted and other video has same thing with little changes algorithm chooses the most similar for you to take a look. if you got 2 videos in 15 sec you get 4x view, 4 video in 15 second and has 2 popular song mixed? 15x view and all of those are making money out of it. those accounts get selled to other people or gets used by ads -which is more money- and at the end people who use those social media are the product. Legal c*caine would fit in this definition.

  20. TikTok didn’t do anything. It just reminded us how badly humanity has been fucking up when it makes new people. Until you focus on making better people you will keep seeing stuff like this and because you yourself are dumb you will blame it on whatever they are doing at that time. The people already had short attentions spans and no respect for anything.

Add people who don’t know shit talking oiy their ass like that Rome didn’t exist lady and I just smh. Curate your experience. I found content from people in my niche fashion style and people planting seeds in dead areas in cities. There’s good everywhere but these platforms are a mess without careful thinking.

    Reply
  65. Youve activated my trap card! Funerals are so boring theses days, especially for kids who didn’t even know the person very well. That’s why many funeral traditions include a party to honor the deceased life and it’s an open door policy to come and go. People always had shit to do, take care of the farm or whatever. This concept of a completely sober event is a result of trying to “honor” the dead by denying it as much as possible. Open caskets are prettied up, make up, flowers everywhere, they treat it like you are visiting someone in the hospital and not a celebration of life.

The living these days don’t know how to process death so they follow the cookie cutter over priced mold set out by most funeral directors.

Anyway, funerals today are a nightmare for anyone that wasn’t super close to the dead.

    Reply
    • @Ionic777 I don’t think its selfish at all to mourn. It’s part of the process of letting go and celebrating

    • Agreed, I wish people didn’t feel like it’s such a necessity to go to a funeral of someone you only seen for 30 minutes.

When I die, just fire me out of a cannon into the side of Elon Musk’s house. Like, right at his bedroom window at the crack of dawn. He’ll just be having his, his, his like, his snoozy lil’ rich boy dreams and then all of a sudden WHAM! A corpse comes crashing through his balcony window (I assume he has a balcony, he’s rich) and right onto the George Foreman Grill he keeps at the foot of his bed (I assume he keeps a George Foreman Grill at the foot of his bed so he can awaken to the sound of sizzling bacon every morning, because he is Michael Scott levels of stupid).

It wasn’t really like tiktok which has same stolen videos with distracting 4 videos in background and mixed 2 songs inside all 5-15 seconds. When I rewind vine videos I can still have little smile while all tiktok/instagram/twitter/ytreels rewinds are all trash and cringey, even the new ones are same. If you get addicted to those your brain will probably rot in 5 years and you will won’t really realise it. I call those platforms “social cr*ack”.

Assuming they haven’t already, a lot of channels post the same video on multiple apps.

Better scenario is all of the other apps give up on copying TikTok’s success, remove their versions and everyone goes back to TikTok.
